Aspen 2 is the District Specialist Provision, within Dover Christ Church Academy for secondary aged students with an EHC plan identifying their profound, severe and complex learning needs.Aspen 2 comprises of:
The learning in Key Stage 3 and 4 is child-centered, with a needs led curriculum organised outside of the usual stage barriers to enable the students to access the curriculum in a way that supports their individual learning requirements. Post 16 is mixed ability and focuses on developing independence, applying skills, work experience and achieving accredited learning routes in literacy, mathematics, life and living skills, cooking and computing. In addition to this Post 16 students in Year 13 spend one day a week at Folkestone College in preparation for their transition to college in the following year. Throughout their education journey at Aspen 2, all students benefit from the rich and varied inclusive opportunities that we are able to provide; opportunities that are made all the richer by our unique position at the heart of a mainstream Academy.Aspen 2 benefits from specialist rooms and areas such as the music room, food technology, catering kitchen, sports hall, physiotherapy room and sensory room. All the students have access to a variety of enriching off-site learning opportunities linked to the termly themes and topics.
Aspen 2 works with many agencies to support all the needs of the pupils. The NHS provides Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy for pupils in the Academy who are on their case load or who are referred to them. Aspen 2 also employs a music therapist once a week who supports individual student needs.
